The Rochester Farmers Market runs every Saturday from May through October, rain or shine. As a growers-only market, everything you find was grown or raised within 50 miles of Rochester. Browse locally grown produce, meats, baked goods, honey, flowers, and artisan crafts. Free outdoor community exercise classes and live local music are featured each Saturday morning. Thursdays Downtown runs every Thursday from June 11 through August 13, 2026 (except July 2), combining arts, food, live music, and a vendor market across several city blocks in the heart of downtown. The main festival grounds at Soldier’s Field are open June 23β27 with eleven live bands performing nightly from 5β10 PM, food vendors including Rolling Roaster, Grandma’s Cookies, Hollandberry Pannekoeken, WinCity Wings, and more. Enjoy laser tag, face painting, carnival games, a professional dance floor, and the Million Dollar Shootout basketball event (qualifiers June 23β25, final June 26 at Hadley Creek Golf Course). The Rochester Public Library Bookmobile strengthens community by reaching those who face geographic, transportation, economic, or other barriers to accessing the main library. On June 25, the Bookmobile pulls up to the History Center with its regular stock of 4,500+ items β adult and children’s books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs. A great opportunity to get your library card and stock up for summer reading while visiting the History Center.

The highlight of Rochesterfest week, the Grand Parade caps off the festival on Saturday, June 27 at 2:00 PM. Floats, bands, community groups, and local businesses march through downtown Rochester while thousands of spectators line the route. One of the most beloved community events in the region, the Zumbro River Community Festival features free admission and lots of free activities β all proceeds benefit the Camp Victory camper scholarship program. Enjoy food, inflatables, miniature golf, laser tag, face painting, crafts, a zipline, and the signature “Big Boom Fireworks Show” at dusk. A fantastic family day just outside Rochester.

The Olmsted County 4-H Horse Project hosts an open ride night at the Island Riders Club in Pine Island to help youth and their horses get comfortable in the arena setting ahead of the county fair. Helmets and other appropriate safety equipment are required, along with a current Coggins form for each horse. Open to 4-H families from Olmsted, Dodge, Fillmore, Houston, Goodhue, Mower, Wabasha, and Winona counties. No horse? Families are welcome to bring lawn chairs and watch. Oxbow Park & Zollman Zoo β Daily Summer Programs
Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo is one of Olmsted County’s true hidden gems. Set on 634 acres along the Zumbro River just north of Byron, the zoo is home to over 30 species of Minnesota native animals β river otters, wolves, bison, black bear, eagles, and more. Free naturalist programs run every weekend. Enjoy 8 miles of hiking trails, five picnic shelters, a campground ($25β30/night), and the beloved Path of Imagination playscape. The Nature Center is open daily 10 AMβ4 PM.

Summer is a wonderful time to visit the History Center. In addition to the main museum β featuring rare photographs, maps, diaries, and exhibits on Rochester’s rise as a global healthcare hub β you can explore the William Dee Log Cabin (an 1862 pioneer home), the Hadley Valley School House (a one-room school), and walk the grounds of the George Stoppel Farm, where the earliest settlers lived in a rootcave in 1856. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has identified five areas in Olmsted County proposed for spongy moth management, with aerial activities likely to occur mid-June to early July 2026. Olmsted County is hosting public informational open houses so residents can learn more and ask questions. One session is at the Development Services & Infrastructure Center (4001 West River Parkway NW, Rochester) and another at the Stewartville Civic Center (105 1st St. E, Stewartville).
